Sustainability

Being part of River means defending and symbolising its values. Being River is living and playing with greatness.

River Sustainability

River Plate incorporates sustainability as a strategic pillar in its management, promoting a balance between institutional development, environmental care and social commitment. The Club carries out initiatives aimed at the efficient management of resources, reducing its impact on the climate crisis and strengthening its bond with the community. Through concrete policies and actions, we seek to build an organisational culture committed to sustainable development and the role of sport as an agent of change.

Topics we address

1. Carbon Footprint

We are building the Club's emissions baseline, a foundational step towards understanding our real impact and designing a mitigation and offset plan with concrete targets.

2. Energy

River is actively working to reduce its energy consumption. The stadium and all facilities have 100% LED lighting, and we have a low-consumption cooling system with inverter technology. We also compile and monitor metrics on energy, waste and water.

3. Sustainable mobility

We promote lower-impact transport alternatives for those visiting our facilities. In daily operations, we have multiple electric vehicle charging points in the Club's car parks and exclusive, free bicycle spaces. On match days, members can reserve their bicycle space through River ID and train and subway schedules are extended to facilitate travel.

4. Waste management

We have an active recycling protocol on both match days and in daily operations. At each match, we recycle over 1 tonne of waste on average. Day to day, we have sorted waste bins throughout the Club and manage recyclable waste through the Las Madreselvas Cooperative. We also work with the Garrahan Foundation for bottle cap collection.

5. Responsible consumption

We are making progress in eliminating unnecessary material consumption at all levels of the Club. The implementation of River ID and Face ID has eliminated plastic cards and physical tickets. Authority elections are held via Electronic Single Ballot, and in the administrative offices we are carrying out a de-plasticisation process and a print control system to reduce paper use.

6. Environmental education and awareness

7. Certifications and reports

As part of the stadium roofing project, River Plate is driving the implementation of the environmental and social standards required by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), consolidating a management approach aligned with international best practices and strengthening its internal processes. The Club also holds the Silver-level Green Seal certificate awarded by the Buenos Aires City Government and the Environmental Aptitude from APrA for mass events, reflecting compliance with local environmental management standards. In this journey, River is also progressing in the development of its first Sustainability Report.
