This Wednesday, July 1st, the initiative called "Gate 12: a space for reflection and memory" took place, regarding the Gate 12 tragedy that occurred on June 23, 1968, and has been forgotten for decades in the collective memory.
In the Emar Acosta Auditorium Room of the Alfredo Palacio building, Pablo Lisotto, author of a book on the subject, survivors, and relatives of deceased persons spoke. Alejandro Veiga (Boca's Deputy Secretary) and Rodrigo Daskal (River Museum) were also present, marking the first time in history that representatives from both clubs participated in an event about the tragedy together.
During the meeting, videos and testimonies were presented that framed the seriousness of what happened and the lack of responsibility of the clubs in it. Lisotto stated that aside from the more than 70 identified deceased persons, many others remained anonymous, along with the large number of injured, and among the deceased, there were even fans of other teams.
River, through its President, Stefano Di Carlo, made themselves available to collaborate with everything related to honor the memory of the victims. Currently, a commemorative plaque at the Club alludes to this tragedy.
